Welcome to my arts blog!

Hello, hi, hola, bonjour! I can’t believe i’m really typing this, but welcome to my very own arts blog, Confessions of an Art Junkie. Eeek!

First of all, thank you for being here and taking the time to read the absolute waffle that I am about to write. Honestly, the mere thought of people wanting to read my ideas, my thoughts and ultimately, my confessions as a passionate art junkie, makes me want to dance around to Mamma Mia’s Dancing Queen for the rest of my life.

Creating my own arts blog has been on my to-do list for at least 3 years now. However, as the queen of procrastination, it has taken me up until this very moment to actually get on with it. Since a very young age, I have loved the arts. From fine art in museums and galleries, textiles and fashion, to music, theatre and dancing. Simply speaking, just anything that incorporates some sort of creativity! It wasn’t until I was in my GCSE’s that I discovered the niche that is arts writing; travelling around the world and writing about incredible people producing incredible things? That sounds like the career for me.

From then on, I carried on studying Fine Art at school while visiting museums and galleries, writing exhibition reviews and volunteering for the arts community. Now, I am lucky enough to be in my second year at university in Liverpool, studying Art & Design History with Media & Communication, which really couldn’t be a more perfect course for my dream career path. It feels good to say that I am finally at a stage where I am happy and confident enough to put myself and my art writing out there into the universe.

I have this crazy passion to connect with the arts community about the amazing things happening visually around us. Though, I also want to reach to those who may not realise how great the community is! If I can encourage people to love the arts as much as I do, then my purpose in life is complete.

This blog will encompass a wide range of topics that will hopefully suit everybody, but especially my fellow art junkies out there! I want to share my experiences with the arts as well as talk about great exhibitions that you need to see, artists you need to follow and elements of art history that can’t be missed. I want to talk about important subjects that need to be spoken about, such as arts education, its funding and decolonising the curriculum, I want to discuss arts activism and the lack of representation of minority groups in museums and galleries. I want to talk about SO much! Because the list really does go on.

If any of this sounds like it will float your boat, then join me for the journey! Creating and writing a blog is a whole different kettle of fish that I have never properly engaged with before, but I am SO excited to get started. After all, the world really is your oyster.

Sending love on this gloomy and cold Thursday from your dearest art junkie,

Bryony
